Feng Shui Bagua Map: A Beginner's Guide to Mapping Your Life Areas
In Feng Shui, the Bagua Map is your energetic blueprint a grid that links specific parts of your home to the key areas of your life. Overlay it on your floor plan to find where wealth, love, career, and more live in your space, then enhance those zones to invite abundance and harmony.
Think of the Bagua as a treasure map. If love feels stalled, you’ll visit the Love & Marriage area. If career momentum is lagging, you’ll adjust the Career sector. This guide demystifies the map, shows you how to apply it, and offers simple cures to activate each life area.
What is the Bagua Map?
The Bagua is a 3×3 grid (nine squares, or guas). Each gua corresponds to a life aspect and carries associated elements, colors, and shapes. The center represents overall health and the balance point for the whole home.
| Bagua Area (Placement) | Life Aspect | Element | Colors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top Left | Wealth & Prosperity | Wood | Purple, Gold, Green |
| Top Middle | Fame & Reputation | Fire | Red |
| Top Right | Love & Marriage | Earth | Pink, Red, White |
| Middle Left | Family & Ancestors | Wood | Green, Blue |
| Center | Health & Well-being | Earth | Yellow, Earth Tones |
| Middle Right | Children & Creativity | Metal | White, Metallics |
| Bottom Left | Knowledge & Self-Cultivation | Earth | Black, Blue, Green |
| Bottom Middle | Career & Life Path | Water | Black, Dark Tones |
| Bottom Right | Helpful People & Travel | Metal | Grey, White, Black |
How to Apply the Bagua Map to Your Home
We’ll use the Western (BTB) method it’s straightforward and great for beginners.
Step 1: Sketch Your Floor Plan
Draw a simple outline of your home and mark the front door. For mapping, treat the shape as a full rectangle/square (we’ll handle missing areas later).
Step 2: Divide into a 3×3 Grid
Lay a tic-tac-toe grid over the plan so all nine boxes are equal.
Step 3: Align the Bottom Row to the Front Door Wall
- Stand at the main entrance, looking inside.
 - The bottom row (Knowledge • Career • Helpful People) aligns with the wall that contains the front door.
 - Your door will land in one of those three bottom boxes.

Example: If the door is centered on that wall, you’re standing in Career. To your left is Knowledge, to your right is Helpful People. The far left back corner is Wealth; the far right back corner is Love.
Irregular Shapes & Missing Areas
Homes are rarely perfect rectangles. Indentations or L-shapes can create missing guas, often echoing challenges in the related life area.
- Identify: When the 3×3 grid extends beyond your walls, the “outside” portion indicates a missing area.
 - Cure: Symbolically complete it by adding a light, plant, or sculpture in the outdoor “missing” zone; or enhance the corresponding spot in the nearest room with a mirror or strong elemental boost.

Applying the Bagua to a Single Room
You can micro-map any room (bedroom, office). Align the bottom row with the wall containing that room’s main door. For instance, locate the Wealth corner of your office and place a prosperity enhancer like a Citrine Crystal Tree.
