Choosing bead size

Six millimetre and eight millimetre beads are the usual sizes for a 108-bead mala. Larger beads look better on a kanthi but are harder to count with.

Stringing a mala

A traditional mala is 108 beads plus one sumeru bead. Knot between beads if you intend to count with it daily; the knots stop the beads wearing against each other.

Combining with crystals
