Feng shui objects are placement instructions in physical form. A laughing buddha facing the wrong way, a tortoise in a bedroom, a pixiu pointed at a mirror: each of these is the object working against the reason you bought it. This page is organised by placement rather than by product type, so you can find the object for the corner you actually have.

Object, direction and the rule that comes with it

The three rules that cover most mistakes

  1. Face it inward. Almost every wealth or luck object faces into the home or office. The exceptions are protective ones (bagua mirror, pixiu at a window) which face the threat.
  2. Keep it off the floor. Deities and symbolic figures are placed on a shelf, table or altar, not on the ground.
  3. Keep it out of the bedroom and bathroom. Bedrooms are for rest; active symbols belong in active rooms.

Feng shui or vastu: do they conflict?

They are separate systems built on the same underlying idea of directional energy, and they agree far more often than they disagree. Where they differ, the practical rule in an Indian home is to let vastu govern the structure (zones, entrances, room placement) and use feng shui objects as enhancements within that structure. Do not use a feng shui object to override a structural vastu correction; fix the structure first.

Frequently asked questions

Where should a laughing buddha be placed?

Diagonally opposite the main door, at roughly eye level, facing into the room. It is not kept in a bedroom, bathroom, or directly on the floor.

Which way should a pixiu bracelet face?

Worn on the left wrist with the pixiu head facing outward, away from your body.

Can I keep a tortoise at home?

Yes, in the north, on a shelf, facing into the home. Metal tortoise for the north, crystal for a study.

How many feng shui objects is too many?

One strong object per intention per room. Six wealth symbols in one living room is clutter, and clutter is the thing feng shui is most consistently against.

Do feng shui items need to be blessed?

No. They are cleaned before first placement and then left in position.
